With summer well behind us and the little boys finally back at school and into a routine, I’ve finally found a moment to write. It was a long, sunny, fun and adventurous summer. Did I mention long? 10 weeks long?
Between the day camps, catching up with friends, finishing our backyard and hosting family from overseas, we managed to get away for a bit and change the scenery. This summer’s theme was Canada so I packed up immigrant mom & dad along with the little boys, and flew out to the most eastern point – St. John’s, Newfoundland. Over the course of 2 weeks he headed westward and used cars, ferries, and our very own feet, to explore our country and this wonderful place called Atlantic Canada/Maritimes.
Total tally:
2 humpback whales a couple of meters from our boat
1 moose in the middle of the highway
1 entire island of gulls and puffins
Red beaches, black beaches, white beaches, sand beaches, rock beaches
2 casinos – because if she didn’t go in for a visit, immigrant mom’s head would explode
Endless coastal trails, coves and bays
A 13 km bridge connecting one province to another – an engineering marvel that made me grip the steering wheel a bit tighter as I drove over it
Countless friendly and happy people everywhere we turned
10 cities
4 provinces we spent time in plus 1 we drove right through to get to our own
4500 kilometers from start to finish
And even though mother nature was kind enough to give us 18 degrees with drizzle and gray skies while Toronto sweltered in a heat wave, it was still very obvious that we live in:
1 BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY
