The Single Mom Chronicles

Growing up, I was always the most conforming and obedient A+ (++++) student. This had more to do with my fear of immigrant parents and what they would do should I show up with anything less than a 99% on my report cards, rather than being enamoured with my studies and loving to learn. So how I ended up with the most non-conforming and oppositional children is truly beyond me, however these boys of mine have had a huge impact on my perception of individual learning styles and the current educational system.

$50 million.

Not a bad amount to try and evolve our schools because teachers, although I tip my hat to you and have the utmost respect for you, I know your work isn’t easy and my hope is that when I win, I can help.

With $50 million I would build the school of the future that exists in my head. A building that Tony Stark himself would envy and would be based on senses & learning methods as opposed to segregating kids by age group.

Grades would morph into platforms.

Platforms would be made of sensory segments.

And each segment would be housed in its own wing. Imagine sound systems which make the current movie dolby digital systems sound like AM radio stations in comparison. Imagine transporting kids into the curriculum to experience it as opposed to memorizing it. And imagine kids, taking things apart to reconfigure and re-design in the air space right in front of their faces. The possibilities are endless!

Students would move through the work at their own pace because now they don’t have one academic year to complete their studies. They have a few years to complete a larger chunk of learning and learn with tools they seem to have an innate ability to use and a passion to work with.

For years this concept school has been floating in my head because of the strengths, challenges and needs of my kids and the kids of those around me. To make it a reality though, I would need a large and wonderfully dedicated TEAM to engineer and build it.  Created with technology developed just for its exclusive use so that every student succeeds in their passion and every student learns and EVERY student is happy. These happy and successful kids would drive a movement and evolve our current methods of educating.

So $50 million lotto max if you can hear me, I need to win you this week. I need you so that we can provide the resources and platforms for our teachers and educators to become trailblazers and ignite the excitement in the next generation of learners. I need you so we can build the space which accommodates the students who don’t thrive in today’s educational environment. And I may also need you for a short get away to the Maldives so I can rest and re-charge before taking on this large project   😉
